STOP THE INJUSTICE: NYWC Interim PRESIDENT CALLS FOR PROBE BEFORE YOUTH ARRESTS, URGES SKILL PROGRAMS FOR DROPOUTS. ZARIA, KADUNA STATE
The acting President of the Nigeria Youth World Council (NYWC), Comrade Okechukwu Amaonwu, has passionately called on law enforcement agencies to ensure thorough investigations before arresting individuals particularly young people ,based solely on their presence at the scene of a crime.
Speaking at the security stakeholders’ meeting held in Zaria, Comrade Amaonwu condemned the recurring trend of innocent youths being thrown behind bars for crimes they neither committed nor knew anything about.
“Many of these young people have no one to speak for them. They end up serving unjust jail terms simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said.
He emphasized that the criminal justice system must not operate on assumptions, especially in communities where marginalized youths already face systemic neglect.
